Beginner's Summer Research Intensive
A 4 week online research program running from mid-July to the end of August

4 Weeks to Research Readiness
This course is intensive course structured into four progressive modules, each spanning approximately one week. Students begin by learning the fundamentals of scientific research, followed by developing a research topic in Week 2. In Week 3, they focus on academic research writing, and in Week 4, they learn how to present and communicate research findings effectively.
The program is delivered through a flexible, asynchronous learning format with pre-recorded lessons, complemented by two live sessions each week for guidance, discussion, and mentorship.
By the end of the course, students will complete a research project pitch in which they design a proposed study based on the skills developed throughout the program. They will present their work at an symposium and receive feedback and evaluation from STEMnosis mentors.

Week 1: Research Foundations & Scientific Literacy
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of scientific research, including what research is, the different methodologies and study types, and how research is structured. They also learn how to read and interpret research papers, understand scientific figures and data, and develop effective note-taking and data collection skills.
Week 2: Ideation & Research Design
This week focuses on developing original research ideas. Students learn how to choose meaningful topics, identify research gaps, and formulate strong research questions and hypotheses. They also begin refining their ideas through guided mentorship, collaboration, and exploratory research.

Week 3: Scientific Writing & Research Communication
Students are introduced to the structure and purpose of scientific writing. They explore each section of a research paper—including the abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and references—while learning how to communicate research clearly, logically, and effectively for a scientific audience.

Week 4: Research Presentation & Dissemination
The final week focuses on how research is shared with the broader scientific community. Students learn about publishing processes, academic posters, and different methods of presenting research. They then apply their learning to prepare and present their own research project pitch in a symposium-style setting, receiving feedback and evaluation from mentors.
